The photographer is among the first vendors to book (9 to 15 months out in peak season). Photos are what remains after decor is gone and cake is eaten.
Do not choose on price alone: compare style, deliverables, editing turnaround, and cancellation terms.

Selection criteria

Full portfolio (not just the top 10 Instagram shots)
Natural light vs flash consistency if your venue is dark
Second shooter for simultaneous prep coverage
Photo count delivered and timeline (6 to 12 weeks common)
Rights: private use, social sharing, no resale by photographer

Contract clauses to check

Hours included and overtime rate
Deposit and postponement policy (illness, weather)
RAW file ownership (often excluded)
Substitution clause if photographer is unavailable
