Negotiate a wedding quote without burning bridges

Asking for an adjustment is normal. Here is how to do it cleanly, with written quotes and comparable line items.

A wedding quote is not a flea market. It is a conversation between two professionals: you are running a one-off event, the vendor is protecting margin and calendar.
We built Fiancé to compare numbers, not to send aggressive messages. A good negotiation leaves both sides ready to work together on the day.

Ground rules

Insist on a written quote (email or PDF), never a phone price alone
Compare the same line items: hours on site, photos delivered, drinks included
Ask a specific question: "What can you remove or simplify to stay under X?"
Do not invent a fake competitor: local vendors talk to each other
Accept "no" sometimes: a clear refusal beats a resentful vendor

Realistic negotiation levers

Off-Saturday or off-season date
Shorter format (cocktail vs seated dinner)
Fewer options (simple wine bar vs premium open bar)
Fast deposit or cash payment in exchange for a small discount
Tip: log every counter-offer in Fiancé or your vendor CRM. Six months later you will not remember the "no photobooth" version.

How Fiancé can help

Compare caterer quotes side by side in Fiancé, tied to confirmed guest count. Link each expense to the budget to see the impact of removing or adding a line item. Set the cap first in the budget calculator.
