Next-day brunch: is it worth organizing?

An increasingly common tradition in France: who to invite, what it costs, and when it is not worth it.

The next-day brunch, once reserved for destination weddings or Anglo-Saxon traditions, has become widely popular in France. It is not mandatory, but it answers a real need: extending the time with people who traveled far, without the pressure of the big day itself.

Who to invite

Brunch usually gathers a smaller circle than the wedding: close family, witnesses, and guests who came from far away for whom the wedding day alone did not justify the trip. Inviting every wedding guest without distinction adds to both budget and logistics, often without real benefit.

What it actually costs

•
Simple format (coffee, pastries, a few cold dishes): €10 to €20 per person
•
Full format with hot dishes and service: €20 to €40 per person
•
Venue: often the same as the wedding if available, or a separate rented space
•
Extra service staff if the wedding venue cannot stay open a second day

When it is not worth it

If most guests are leaving early the next morning, or the wedding venue is not available a second day, the brunch loses much of its appeal. A simple message offering an informal coffee before departures can be enough in that case, without committing a dedicated budget.

Organizing it without extra effort

•
Ask the wedding caterer for a brunch quote at the same time as everything else: usually easier to negotiate
•
Plan a buffet rather than a served format, more flexible for scattered arrival times
•
Share the brunch time and location on the wedding page from the invitation stage, not just on the day
The brunch does not need to be formal: a simple buffet in a garden or a cafe booked for the occasion fills the role well, without mirroring the scale of the wedding.
