The groom's suit usually gets far less attention than the dress, even though the same constraints apply: production lead time, fittings, alteration budget. Three options exist, with very different cost and timing profiles depending on which one you pick.
Bespoke (tailor-made)
•
Fully fitted to your body shape, free choice of fabric and finishings
•
Lead time: 8 to 12 weeks minimum, often longer in peak season (April to September)
•
Budget: starting around €800 to €900 for an artisan tailor, with no real ceiling above that
•
Best suited if the suit will keep being worn after the wedding for regular professional use
Rental
•
Fast in-store choice, fitting on existing stock, limited adjustments
•
Lead time: a few weeks is enough, but book 2 to 3 months ahead in peak season
•
Budget: €150 to €400 depending on fabric quality and included accessories
•
A good compromise if the suit will not be worn again afterward
Off-the-rack with alterations
•
Bought at a regular store, then altered by a tailor
•
Lead time: 3 to 6 weeks for alterations depending on scope
•
Budget: €300 to €700, suit and alterations included
•
The suit stays wearable after the wedding for other occasions
Coordinating the wedding party's look
Once the groom's suit is chosen, it often becomes the reference for the witnesses and the rest of the party: same color family without necessarily the same fabric, boutonnieres matched to the wedding palette, shoes in the same register. Locking this reference early avoids last-minute purchases from your witnesses.
Plan a final fitting with the actual shoes and, if relevant, the final tie or bow tie: trouser length and jacket cut read differently once the full accessory set is on.
