Warm palette, golden light, off-peak pricing: autumn has a lot going for couples who want a beautiful mood without a summer budget.

September and October have become increasingly popular months for weddings, without reaching June or July pricing. Low late-afternoon light, foliage colors, and often still mild weather make it an interesting compromise season.

A palette that fits naturally

•
Terracotta, burgundy, mustard, olive green: tones that match the season's natural backdrop
•
Seasonal flowers: dahlias, chrysanthemums, late-season roses, coppery foliage
•
Candles and warm lighting, especially flattering as evenings get shorter
•
Seasonal fruit and elements (squash, grapes, figs) on tables or in the decor

The shoulder-season pricing advantage

September, and especially October, stay less in demand than June through August, with venue and catering rates typically 10 to 20% lower. The most sought-after vendors (photographers, DJs) also have more availability than in peak summer, leaving more choice even for a later booking.

What to plan for anyway

•
Weather more unpredictable than summer: an outdoor backup plan is still essential
•
Days shorten fast in October, factor that into the photo schedule
•
Evening temperatures drop: plan extra heating for outdoor spaces
•
Seasonal flowers are available, but some summer varieties disappear from catalogs
